Welcome to Toronto!
We are very excited to be hosting the Summer NABC. One of the great highlights of our fantastic city is that we are home to a vast number of truly wonderful restaurants within walking distance of the Host Hotels. They are listed in this guide by cuisine (with special notations being made for those restaurants that have offered a discount to bridge players) Make sure you present your convention card to take advantage of the discounts offered.
At the end of the list we have also added some of our personal favourites for those of you who might want a night off from bridge and would like to experience Toronto’s dining at its finest. Although these restaurants aren’t necessarily reachable by foot, they are a short cab or subway (TTC) ride away.
Toronto also boasts many ethnic cuisines in areas close to the downtown core; these include Chinatown (Spadina and Dundas area), Greektown (on the Danforth) and Little Italy (College Street West). You may also want to visit the Distillery District which is an internationally acclaimed village of brick-lined streets and dozens of vibrantly restored Victorian industrial buildings. It is home to live theatres, galleries, fashion, design and jewellery boutiques, unique cafes and award-winning restaurants. It’s all completely closed to traffic and just a few minutes walk from downtown Toronto. Ask any Torontonian or the Hotel Concierge for some recommendations.
Also be sure to visit the St. Lawrence Market (Front and Jarvis). It is one of the 25 best markets in the world and home to 50 specialty vendors. You must try the famous Canadian Back Bacon on a Kaiser or Churrasco Chicken Sandwich.
The underground “PATH” stretches for miles and will lead you to many restaurants including food courts offering a wide selection of moderately priced fast food alternatives. There are also a number of similar restaurants “above ground” – Subway, Mr Sub, Pizza Pizza, Tim Hortons, etc. all within walking distance of the Host Hotels.
No restaurant guide can be published without the mention of our “street dogs”; these can be found at most corners in the downtown core. You must try one before you go home!
Finally, let’s not forget you can always get a bird’s eye view of Toronto while dining at the restaurant inside the CN Tower!
Bon Appetit!
